We have a total of 10 entries this year-- 8 by adults and 2 by school aged kids. This card is just one of the beautiful cards on display. Oooh... and a little "toot" for me! I (Tara) have been published on page 84 in the Jan/Feb issue of Rubber Stamper magazine! We're no longer selling new issues of Rubber Stamper in the store, but we'd be happy to show it off to ya when you stop by!

Well.... I've got some Christmas cards to finish up. This year I might even get them mailed before Christmas!

We recieved another shipment yesterday with some new products and are expecting the arrival of more today! So, stop by and fill out your wish list and then take a business card with you so that you can pass it on to the man in your life :)

Also in stock again is some lovely mirrored gold & silver paper, some sparkly embossing powders & we've got a couple extras of the popular "African Queen" SOTM from November, which many of you were sorry you missed!

December Stamp of the Month

Our December SOTM has arrived and it's every bit as lovely as I hoped it would be! The silhouette spray is by Stampendous, and is a versatile image which can be used through several seasons (winter, fall, spring...) as well as being great as both a background & focal image! I love how it turned out on this simple card I made tonight, simply coloured with markers in shades of red & green (plus a few extra touches!). Our SOTM is always 35% off and this month we brought in several extras. If you're on our auto-ship list, your stamps are on their way :) If you're not on our list, you can still get one for yourself! I think this is going to be one of my favourites!

writing on the wall

I'm brainstorming creative quotes and words to put on the wall with our new wall text alphabets! Short is good, but longer quotes can be mixed with some of our foam stamps. Soo.... let's see some ideas in our comments section! If we decide to use your idea, I'll send you a little giftie as our thanks! (I've already gone through a bunch of ideas from Ali Edwards & Donna Downey, so please don't send those!) Let the creativity begin!

Page & Card Maps

I've been meaning to share this link for a while now, and today is as good a time as any! There is nothing like a good sketch to give your creativity a little boost, and Page Maps is an awesome website with new sketches (or page maps) every month which you can download in pdf form for easy printing-- a full page of scrapbook layout ideas PLUS a full page of card layouts! There's several I'd really like to try this month, my current fave being the one pictured here (probably because I could use my new curvy cutter on it!). Sorry the quality is so lousy-- you'll have to visit their website, Page Maps, and print your own copy of it!

Goodies for December!

If you recieve our e-mails, you heard mention of the boxes we've been waiting for in the last message... well, today they arrived! Here's some photos to give you an idea of all the lovely ribbons & fun stickers that came, but there's more! I'm so excited about the new wall text alphabets from Making Memories! These easy to use alphabets are up to 5.5" tall and are easy to apply & remove! For under $30, you get 2 complete alphabets plus some extra vowels & most used letters. I'm dreaming up the words I'll add to the walls here in the store, but would love some for home as well!

We also have all the pieces to put together some more of our Christmas Scrap & Card Kits with Basic Grey Fruitcake papers, We've got silent setters in stock (this is a great item to add to your Christmas wish list!) new papers by SEI & Scenic Route, lots of new stickers, 3D foam dots that are .5" & 1" thick (WOW) and more... there's lots to see :)

And while quantities last... we've got the Winter issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today free with your purchase! Online customers can download a pdf of the magazine free on their website! This is a high quality Canadian magazine that we're proud to carry in our store!

Well, I'm off to find space to put out the new goodies... have a creative day!

Creating Christmas Cards

It's definately TIME to create Christmas cards-- I'm determined to actually send some out this year, so have been playing around with different stamps and ideas whenever I get a chance! Here's a couple I've created this week.
The Partridge in a Pear Tree image is by A Stamp in the Hand and is one I picked up last year but never stamped, I had fun inking it up with my markers last night and experimenting with colours :)
The poinsettia is by Artful Stamper and is one that is designed to be layered. I made a sample and, well... now I'm in love with it, so there is one less on the shelf :) I gold embossed it three times on ivory cardstock and painted it up with a couple shades of Twinkling H20's. My glitter glue is still drying, so I wasn't able to scan it, but I think the photo shows it off pretty good anyways!
I look forward to seeing some of YOUR Christmas cards this year in our Christmas Card Contest! There is still lots of time to enter, cards are due Dec. 9. If I haven't already posted full details, I'll do that in the next couple of days.
Have a creative day!

Fantasy Keepsake Box

I was going through a recent issue of Paper Trends magazine yesterday and came across an adorable project I just had to try. The magazine linked to a website address with full instructions which I thought I'd share with you! The Fantasy Keepsake Box is small, but packs some punch! It stands just over 5" tall and opens up to reveal 4 tiny boxes, which I have filled up with a small stamp, ink & some embellishments! It would also be a great gift box for small jewelry items. If the instructions are a bit much for you, just let us know... we've already had requests for a class on this box so will probably schedule one soon :) I hope you'll have fun with this little weekend project!

A Cool Day

Every time I go outside it feels a little bit cooler... and I hear tomorrow it will near -30 degrees! In my opinion, it's perfect weather to spend time inside creating (or shopping for things to create with)! I put together this cute little tag with my new penguin QK die & some Basic Grey papers this afternoon- it seemed appropriate :)

I haven't had a chance to look through yet, but the winter issue of Canadian Scrapbooker arrived today! It looks like a great issue, I spotted some cute mini books, awesome winter (& hockey) layouts and fun Christmas pages! Lots of inspiration in this Canadian magazine! Stop by and get yours while you can! Christmas magazines & idea books have been flying off the shelves lately!

QK Sale

Ooops... I forgot to mention our current QuicKutz sale! We've got a selection of dies that are still in the 'old' blue packaging that we pulled off the shelf to make room for all the new winter & Christmas dies... so we're offering one FREE with the purchase of any two dies while supplies last! It's a great deal and a good way to pick up some stocking stuff for the QK lover on your Christmas list! Since I'm back... thought I'd post a cute sample from the QuicKutz site... this one brought a big smile! Can't wait to 'lift' it!

Boxes bring smiles!

I wonder if you've noticed how much we love QucKutz here? It really is one of those things that makes us smile, I just love the results when I use it on my projects! Today brought another shipment from QuicKutz, which brings smiles to us with the fun new winter shapes (my personal fave's are the penguin & the coffee mug!) which are just so fabulous as we're facing another Canadian winter! I just know people are gonna love the hockey stick, skis, skates, touque & parka as well. There's tons of awesome samples on the QK website, which I'm sure will inspire you! We have just 3 QuicKutz tools in stock right now, and they're going fast! If you've got one on your wish list, you may want to pass that news on :)

Another box that came today held the new Photo-opoly game I mentioned a bit ago! It comes complete with all the usual 'monopoly' stuff plus templates & instructions for sizing your photos for each 'property', pre-printed & blank captions for the photos and a permanent marker & a glue pen for putting it all together! I'm putting one together for a Christmas gift- my first step is to pick 22 photos! This is a project that can be done either high or low-tech, which is great as it means anyone can put it together!

huge circles...

I thought I'd post a public reply to a comment from Cindy on my "spinning 'round" layout! I used the fabulous new Curvy Cutter system by EK Success for the big circles on my page! This new tool cuts around 40 different sizes of circles, from 2 1/4" up to ... well, I'm not sure how large! (My cutting mat is 14" square, and it would go larger than that!) We were able to cut circles that were about 11.5" from some Christmas papers to make fun 'ornaments' for our store window! It's very easy to use, and has guides for precise measuring up to 7.5" inches. We'd love to show you how it works next time you stop by the store!

I just had to share my latest creation using the alpha from our QuicKutz Vixen gift set! It really is a versatile one! This layout is 8" and Vixen adds another fun touch to it! It's not just for Christmas :)

The Ultimate QK kit (with cute BLOSSOM alphabet!)

I've just recently learned that we will be able to order in this fabulous QuicKutz kit for sale in our store! This set was previously released 'exclusively' on QVC and is now available to stores in Canada. I'm been dying to get my hands on the 'blossom' mini alphabet, in particular! It's not available seperately from the kit, and the flower dies (tabs, tags, etc.) are also exclusive items available only in this set! Take a look at the photo to see all that is included-- it's a great value, and we're offering it to our customers at a fantastic price of $235 Canadian! We'd like to place an order soon and get them while we still can... please let us know if you want one or if it is going on your Christmas list so we know how many to order!

Photo-opoly Game

This game was advertised in the current issue of Creating Keepsakes and it just called to me that it would be a great Christmas gift! My family plays a lot of games when we get together, and this would be a brilliant merger between games and scrapbooking. It's a totally customizable 'monopoly' type game, which you add your own photos & captions to! We're still waiting for information about getting it in to our store, but I'm hoping it'll be soon! We would love to take some pre-orders, though, so we can be sure to get enough copies in! Please e-mail us or post a comment here on the blog if you'd like to reserve one for yourself!

Do ya journal?

I get e-mail newsletters from all over the place. Sometimes it's information overload and other times it's just great! This link to a Journalling Style Quiz that came today is a pretty fun one! It's nice and short, but gives some great ideas for journalling that will hopefully inspire you when you're working on your scrapbook pages! I know lots of us struggle with what & how to journal when we're working on layouts, and it's easy to ignore it or put it off... but it's SO important to add those details that really will tell your story when people look through your album years from now! So... here's my challenge to you-- grab a layout you've already completed and add those details to it! I promise you, it's gonna feel really good!

Christmas card snipets

Here's a couple snipits of some of the Quick Creative Christmas cards we'll be doing in our class this Wednesday night! The class is just $15 and you'll leave with 4 cards you can easily adapt and duplicate to make some fast & unique cards this holiday season! Call or email to register for the class!

Stamp of the Month

I've just finally uploaded the last few months of card samples for our SOTM program-- if you're a member of our yahoo group, you can view them by clicking the link on the title of this post! If you're not a yahoo group member, you're welcome to join our group/mailing list by following the instructions it takes you to :) The image here shows our current SOTM, a flurry of snowflakes by Stampendous. I had a bit of a crisis with this one as it isn't the stamp I ordered (gotta hate typos!) but the folks at Stampendous did a smashing job with the sample board-- I think you'll find this to be a very versatile stamp! We do (or did) actually have all the other stamps shown on this sample in stock as well-- plus a bunch of other great images for Christmas cards! So much fun!

I thought I'd post about the stamp sale we've got happening right now in the store on all in stock wood-mounted stamps!

I also wanted to share with you this cute project from the QuicKutz website that uses the Vixen gift set.... I just had to 'lift' the idea, I think it'll make cute stocking stuffers! I haven't photographed mine yet (Rudolphs nose is still drying) but is it not adorable?

For the love of FRUITCAKE

It's hard to imagine... but if anyone can make the world love fruitcake, it's the folks at Basic Grey! Their new Christmas lines, Fruitcake & Dasher are just so wonderful... I've set aside a variety of Fruitcake papers (which are double sided!) for our upcoming Scrap & Cards Kit-- we've got some fun ingredients that will make it a kit you won't want to miss!

Mom & I spent several hours today making room for the 73 new patterned papers that arrived today... *whew* Of course, part of that process means adding a bunch more papers to our bargain bin... which is on 3 for $1 for one more day! All in all, there's a diverse mix of papers which you should have a fun time checking out!

If you're not ready for Christmas yet (did I mention there's just 55 days until Christmas?) you might enjoy this card I made the other day which celebrates Autumn... all the stamps are Hero Arts (mostly their new Clear Design images) and the papers are Daisy D's. It's a pretty simple design, but I had fun with the large monogram, the pretty ribbons and the great brown flower :)

Ravishing Ribbons!

Here's a snapshot of some of the ravishing new ribbons we now have in stock! I love the wide polkadot images for a punch of colour on a card or layout (they're a full inch wide!) and the stripes are a nice classic touch! The leafy green ribbon is one I've been wanting for a long time... it comes in white, too, and I can't wait to use it with some prima flowers! We also have a variety of new charms, buckles, bookplates, etc. which are such a nice touch on projects! We've got a good variety of brads back in stock as well (including snowflakes for your winter projects!) and some fun new shaped buttons & eyelets! Hopefully some of this will inspire you to create!
Oooh... one more thing! VIXEN from QuicKutz is on it's way and will be in the store by the end of next week! Quantities are limited, so put your requests in now!

Who doesn't love a good sale...

Don't you love a good sale!? I was enjoying one at a local gift shop the other day and it occurred to me that it was time we had another good sale! So... here's what we came up with! We've got this shelf unit of stamps (this picture doesn't show it all!) on Buy 1 Get 1 Free until the end of the Month! We're also taking our reduced item shelf (and sale magazines) and making it buy 1 get 1 50% off (off the reduced price!) plus our bargain papers are now 3 for $1.00! We hope you'll enjoy the savings while you shop and help us to make room for all the great new products that will be arriving in the coming days!

Quick, Creative Christmas Cards

I had a great group of ladies at the store tonight for my first Christmas card class of the season... and we managed to complete the 4 cards I had planned in 2 hours! Here's a taste of the cards we made! The Snow card uses some QuicKutz dies (by the way... we got in the new PURPLE tool today!) and patterned paper with a touch of blue bling (and distress ink, of course). The other card features a background of Twinkling H20's-- which makes for a beautiful sky behind this scenic Stamp by Stampendous! I also added some fun loopy ribbon which we carry in several colors, it's so pretty layered with another ribbon! Both these cards are easy to create in 'bulk' and don't use alot of expensive supplies.

We'll have 3 or 4 different cards for our next Christmas card class on Nov. 8-- hope to see you there!

Mini Book Mondays

Here's a sneak peek at the upcoming "Mini book Monday" class! This envelope book, in shades of pink & brown, will be taught Oct 16 at 10am and Oct 23 at 7pm. It's an open themed book you can use for many aspects of life!

We've got several other great classes coming up... hopefully they'll give you the kickstart you need to work on Christmas cards & gifts :)

New Clear Designs for Stamping!

We've got a brand new rack of stamps set up in the store... and it's so fun! Hero Arts Clear Designs for stamping is a series of stamp sets with coordinating words & images for each letter of the alphabet. I've picked several sets out that I'm hoping to play with a bit this weekend (or maybe tonight at our THINK PINK Midnight Crop!). There's a great variety of words, images & letters which can be used for monograms on your cards or scrapbook pages. The Hero Arts website has at least one sample for each set up on their website, which is great for some inspiration! We also got in some more Christmas images, stamp sets & some fun Christmas *bling* to add some glitz to your Christmas projects.

Vixen Holiday Gift Set!

QuicKutz had big news at Memory Trends... this adorable Holiday Gift Set, "Vixen" will be available soon and is a perfect item for your Christmas wish list! The gift set includes a classic sized unicase alphabet, reindeer & mistletoe shape dies, rub ons plus a cute peppermint lip gloss & a red change purse, all packaged in a fun elf hat box! Besides this adorable gift set... QuicKutz also had some other BIG news, the new Revolution die cutting tool, which holds their new 4" dies! There's lots of great new shapes & 5 new alphabets that fit in this tool, which also holds standard QuicKutz dies. Very cool! It looks like it's as easy to use as the Squeeze, which is great news!

We've been starting to see fun new releases from a variety of other companies and will update everyone as soon as we start seeing more... a favourite so far, is Basic Grey's new Christmas lines-- I think there are a lot of people who will be loving fruitcake this year! Their other new Christmas line, Dasher, is beautiful also... we're going to have some fun with our ordering for the next little while here :) Well, I've got a class to finish getting ready for... so have fun making up your wish list and have a creative day!

Dream Big!

I absolutely love our SOTM for October, this gorgeous giraffe by Artful Stamper! I've got a few giraffe stamps and they add some great variety to a stamp collection-- it's nice to have images that can be used for feminine & masculine cards and this one does the trick! We've got a bunch of other new images from Artful Stamper (a Canadian company that is new to our store), especially Christmas images. We also have these fun 1.5" blossoms in a variety of colours in stock as well-- you can get them by the jar or individually. I love playing with new goodies!

Ranger does it again...

Yes, they've done it again... I'm so excited to have fun new Ranger products in the store! We've got the entire collection (36 colours!)of Paint Dabbers in the store, and they are just soooo handy! I had to try them out today, so I pulled out my foam stamps for a quick layout-- it was SO nice to not have any brushes to clean up afterwards, not to mention that there was no wasted paint sitting around either! It's good stuff!

We also have the fun new 'accents'-- in addition to the glossy accents (which is a classic, whatever brand you use!) they've made matte accents (gives a dry embossed look), crackled accents & sepia accents (glossy accents with a sepia hue-- fun!). I tried out the matte accents on my layout as well, and it's pretty cool, though I'd say it's more tactile than visual, so probably something I'll use on cards, mini books and ATC's more than on layouts!

Here's a scan of my quickie layout-- real simple, but I got to play with new Cosmo Cricket papers, the paint dabbers, matte accents & a new QK die PLUS I got to use one of my 1 cent photos-- all things that make me happy! I hope you get a chance to do something that makes you happy tonight. Have a creative day!

Fabulous!

Here's a peek at the layout that I've had published in the latest issue of Scrapbook & Cards today. It's so exciting for me as it's my very first published layout! Local customers can pick up a copy of the magazine for FREE with any purchase while supplies last-- the rest of you can enjoy a free download on their website :)
Download a PDF of Scrapbook & Cards Today

I played around with some autumn cards last night and will try to get them up and posted here soon... I just got 143 new pictures in the mail today and am anxious to scrap some of them! I used a new (to me) company that had a coupon for 1 cent prints... I got them all done for about $10 US! Email me if you'd like to try it out. These are all pictures from my childhood, so the colors will be challenging to work with :)

Hope you're having a creative day!

Back to School!

I know, we're on week 3 already, but it still feels like everyone just got 'back to school'! I just finished up this layout, which I'll be teaching in my TLC (tag, layout, card) class next Wednesday night! We'll be using all sorts of 'school' supplies, and playing with tools like the Making Memories Tag Maker & Coluzzle, as well as some classics like a stapler! We'll use Karen Fosters new school papers on a background of Basic Grey as well as distress inks, clear stamps (for faux stitching) and more! Bring a photo that can be cropped down to tag size (about 2" round) and we'll use the tag maker to put it on a thank you card! Feel free to bring a couple first day of school photos for your layout, too-- you can add them at the class, or later on when you get home. Have a creative day!
