Kioshi- Basic Grey POTM

This month's Page of the Month class featured the Kioshi collection from Basic Grey. Here's the image sent to us by Basic Grey along with the finished layout with Mom's pictures on it.
Mom & I are determined to have a layout for BOTH of us from each kit, and this month it was a little bit trickier... I had to add four more sheets of patterned paper, different flower embellishments and I mixed up my title adding a QuicKutz font. I'm really happy with the way my variation came out (the addition of GREEN makes me smile) and was thrilled to find photos to use in my stash! I love this funkier floral pattern and those fabric 'bloomers' by Basic Grey.
Here's a close up of my big flower- a 'bloomer' layered over a paper flower cut out with a Tim Holtz Alterations die. The leaves are hand cut and the stem is 'crinkle pleated' (the original layout pleated one of the Ribbon Doilies, which is super cute but looked awful on this bold patterned paper).
Every month we're adding a bonus card to our POTM class, designed by me (Tara), using some of the scraps from our finished layout. This month I went really 'green' (and was commended by my students, as today is Earth Day!) and used the pretty floral pattern from the packaging of our Cozy Posies! We cut around the design and added one of the Ribbon Doilies (had to use the one that wasn't on our layout!) to a 1" strip of blue paper. We finished it off with a Tim Holtz sentiment stamped on white cardstock cut with a Spellbinders Nestabilities die.
Hope you enjoyed the peek at what we made! Next month we're using 'Green at Heart'... can't wait!

So much!

I hardly know where to begin, there has been SO MUCH new product arriving in the store lately and it hasn't been ending up here. I'm doing much better at updating on Facebook & in our weekly e-newsletters, so if you're not already hooked up with us for those, please join the fun! I'm trying to keep it so there's different stuff here than everywhere else, so YES, you need to connect with us all three ways if you're not already :)

So... let's start with the latest and work backwards a bit... QUICKUTZ arrived today. Yep, the CHA release is finally here and there are some great pieces in this 'Epic Sized' collection! I love the BIG dies, the new edge dies (6" wide- hooray!) and the three new alphabets (I have a wee addiction there)! I haven't had a chance to cut a single one yet, but here's a few samples from their online gallery.

We had a fabulous time Tuesday night at Cheri's Technique Tuesday class, featuring shading techniques with Copic Markers! The timing was perfect as we also have an assortment of Copic Markers new on the shelves! For those of you looking to start small, we have some 12 packs of Ciao markers available in four different color combinations :)

I believe we mentioned already that we've got TIM HOLTZ products in the store, including some of his stamp sets, Alterations dies (which cut beautifully in QK's Epic Six tool) and the 12 new colors of Distress Ink (on top of all the amazing TH products we regularly stock!). We are loving these products and looking forward to the rest of the items arriving in the near future!

How 'bout some Fancy Pants? I love their new collections and the diversity there! Check out Roadshow (a little bit vintage, a little bit grungy... looks great with the TH dies & stamps!), About a Girl, My Family & Rusted Sun. So many great designs- you'll love 'em!

Stamping Bella has been pumping out some fabulous new stamps lately and we got a good assortment in the store recently! We've also got some of the great new Quite Contrary papers from My Mind's Eye... and so much more!

Stop by and see what's new in the store... while it's still new and in the store ;) See you soon!

New to the team: Chris

I'm very happy to be introducing a new member of our Seriously Creative Design Team to you- Chris!

Chris is a scrapbooker, stamper & card maker who always brings laughter with her when she visits us in the store! She has an 11 year old daughter who is the focus of many of her layouts & creative projects (as well as being an eager accomplice when Chris is shopping).

We're so excited because Chris is joining us as a 'Special Project' designer! She'll be bringing us samples focused on the Project 12 Challenge throughout this year and we'd LOVE to have many of you join her in this challenge! Chris will also be bringing us lots of inspiration and samples using her Silhouette tool. You can check out her latest projects in the store and on her blog.

We currently have layout samples for both the January & February Project 12 sketches on display in the store. One thing I love about this challenge is that it gives you time to complete you layouts- with the idea being that you use photos you took in March on your March layout (novel idea, I know!). If you'd like to participate and enter your layout in the challenge, you have until April 20 to complete a layout using the March sketch:

I can't wait to see what Chris does with this sketch! You'll have to hop on over to Chris' blog to see what she did with the January & February sketches ;)

Welcome to the team, Chris! We're excited to have ya with us & can't wait to see what you bring us next!

Cards by ME!

This first card is completely inspired by a gorgeous sample in the Hero Arts catalog... I can't claim any real originality for it, but I had fun with it doing some quick coloring with my Copic Markers and adding some fun detail with Glossy Accents & some Sugar Beads. All stamps are from Hero Arts.
Maybe you've heard, but some TIM HOLTZ goodness arrived this week! Here's my quick 'gotta play with it' card using some of his new Alterations dies and stamps, with a touch of Distress Stickles to finish it off. I can't wait to find some time to really play with these and the rest of the fun stuff!

Little Yellow Bicycle!

Selected papers & stickers from Little Yellow Bicycle's "Lucky Me" & "Clothesline" collections have arrived! Here's some sample layouts we did when we saw them debut at our Retailer's Event in Edmonton.

Lucky Me is a great collection for celebrating LIFE: friendship, love, good times... it's a very versatile release in a fabulous color scheme!

Clothesline is full of fresh florals with a hint of grunginess to it. It's a perfect celebration of spring & new life! I was thrilled to see how well it worked with this baby pic I found when I was going through some boxes last weekend! Wasn't I a cute baby?
... and here's a quick card I put together with some of their stickers & my paper scraps!

Cards by Beatrix

Here's a few more cards from Beatrix! She's been creating with the Origins collection from Basic Grey (she told me she made 40+ cards from a 6x6 pad!)

I'm not going to try to explain every little detail of these cards, but take a good look at them- so many fun elements, including crackle paint accents, ribbons, stitching and fun collage items from Making Memories. Enjoy!

April SOTM

We're happy to introduce to you our April SOTM- Rainy Day Changito by Stampendous!
We fell in love with this polymer set of stamps and the versatile collection of images on it! Between the three of us (Tanya, Mom & myself-Tara) we managed to use every image on the set! We hope you'll have as much fun playing with it as we've had!

Tanya created this first card, challenging herself to work without patterned paper! She embossed in clear on the green background layer. Her main image is stamped in black on white and colored with Copics. The card is finished up with touches of glittery stickles all over the place :)
This card layout was based on a card we found in a magazine (gotta love 'scraplifting'). Mom stamped the images in black on ledger paper and distressed the edges with one of the new colors of Distress Ink ;) She did some simple coloring with Copic Markers and stitched a cute pompom ribbon onto it for some fun details. The patterned papers used here are from Cosmo Cricket's "Material Girl" 6x6 pad.
Here's another cutie Tanya made, with another clear embossed background using the rain drop stamps from this set. There's lots of great details on this card- her umbrella border is 3D'd and glittered to the max, it's so much fun! She inked up the sentiment with her Memento marker and stamped words separately to change up the shape of it.
Lastly, here's my contribution! My favorite images on this stamp set are the frog and the row of boots, so I had fun putting them together her (joined with the extra 'bounce' image). Once I settled on a layout for combining those images, I had a blast coloring them up with several bright shades of Copics :) The hoppy spring stamp is a perfect coordinate for this frog and I finished off my card with three 'pixie' flowers from Prima (so cute!) and three brads, which I added a touch of Stickles (each in their coordinating color). I used my 'crinkle pleat' technique (ha! love the name so I have to keep using it) for the ruffle. It's a 6" strip crinkled up and applied to Scor-tape which has been adhered to the back of the ivory layer (which is 5.5" wide). It adds just a touch of dimension to this otherwise 'flat' card.
Hope you enjoyed our samples and will have fun playing with YOUR stamps!

As always, this stamp set is 35% off for members of our SOTM club. Ask us how you can be a part of it!
