LIttle Buddy

Our new buddy arrived today... the Scor-Buddy, that is, and I've got to say, he's a super cute younger sibling to the Scor-Pal! He comes with a storage bag for just $20 and will fit beautifully in your tool bag for card classes & crops!
You'll notice some colourful ribbons on our Scor-Pal & Scor-Buddy... this was our brilliant idea after *ahem* losing a scor tool just days after getting our Scor-Pal. Thankfully they are replaceable (which is good, because we wear them out! This tool gets used sooo often here!), but we found if we attach a long ribbon it's much easier to find :)

We've tried various things to attach the ribbon to the tool itself, but until today it's actually just been a loose piece... then we figured out there are screws on the back of the tool, so we punched a hole in the ribbon (the small hole in your crop-a-dile!) and screwed it on there. Viola- a colourful, personalized tool! Here's a pic of the back of the Scor-Buddy and how we attached it. It works exactly the same way on the Pal.
Here's a size comparison for you- you can see the Buddy is just over 1/4 of the size of his big brother, plus he's a nice shade of pale blue instead of grey.

Some features we love- it's open edged on the right and bottom sides, which accommodates any size of card you're working with. The grooves are every 1/4" throughout, with some 1/8" grooves on the left and right sides and a couple in the middle to make tri-fold cards a breeze!
Welcome to the family little buddy... we love you already!

p.s. at this point... we have just one more tool in stock, but will hopefully have more within a week or so. Let us know if you'd like us to reserve one for you!

Happy Birthday!

It's Tanya's birthday today! Happy birthday, girl!
I figured a special lady like Tanya was worth getting all inky for, so I took the lead from Chris & Cheri and made a ruffled 3D flower for a cheery card for Tanya! I've been wanting to play with these DeLovely papers by Cosmo Cricket, and was thrilled to find that my Cherry Limeade Glimmer Mist is a perfect match for them!

So... I pulled out my splat mat & cut a sheet full of ruffly flowers on my Silhouette (bonus- it was a free download a couple of weeks ago! But even if you're paying for it, it's totally worth the 99 cents!). A little glimmer mist, some crumpling and shaping and gluing... and I made three pretty pink flowers! Since I was all inky anyways, I also smeared some distress Stickles (worn lipstick!) on the petals for some pearly flecks of texture. That stuff is like candy, I love it!

I'm into simple these days, but love the combo of bright colours with kraft cardstock, on which I stamped a Hero Arts background image. I stamped my sentiment on sticky-back Canvas for some extra texture & finished it off with 3 more pearls.

I hope Tanya liked the card and gets spoiled with a bunch more pretty creations!

Come Play with Us...

{try 'em before you buy 'em}
This week we've been working through something I've been neglecting for a long time... sorting through the stamp stash to see which ones we can possibly part with! What you see here is just the beginning... and let me tell ya, it's hard to let 'em go! So many of these are like old friends!

My dad was looking at the piles and he had a great idea- why not invite YOU to come and play with the stamps we're parting with! So, feel free to stop by and play with us on Saturday (tomorrow)- bring your own basic supplies, but feel free to use our stamps and create something with them! If you fall in love with any of the stamps after you've tried 'em, you're welcome to buy them! Nothing has been priced, but we'll start with prices around 50% of the original. It's just $5 to drop in, but if you spend more than $10 on our used stamps there's no charge!

We'll have table space ready and stamps out waiting to be inked up when we open at 10:30 and you can stay until we close at 5:30! Let us know if you can come.... should be fun!

Capella- Basic Grey POTM samples

This was June's Page of the Month layout from Basic Grey! We used elegant products from their Capella collection and played around with some fussy cutting...
Excuse the color and tone of these photos- I waited a little too late in the day to take them and lost some natural light. Here's my version of the layout:
and here's Mom's version- she got to do the 'variation' this month, using green instead of the pale pink. It really suited the photos since they were all about the first signs of spring! Instead of using the 'pops' stickers, she did even more fussy cutting and added some 3D touches and stickles for glittery accents.
... and here's the bonus card we made using some of our leftover materials!
Our July POTM class takes place next Wednesday, July 21! We're playing with the Max & Whiskers collection- should be fun!

Cornish Heritage Farms Closing

There was a sad announcement for stampers last week when CHF told us they are closing their business! We've grown to love their stamps and will miss them terribly when they're gone (hopefully they'll find a buyer for the company!). We will be placing our final order with CHF this weekend, so if you have any images you would like, please send us an e-mail to by closing time on Friday! We expect this order to have a longer wait time than usual, but there are no guarantees images will be available again after this point.

This diverse company has collections of images like: Thomas Kinkade, Kim Hughes, Elvis, Saturday Evening Post, Friendly Critters, General Motors, Sarah England... and more! From vintage to classic to cute, they really have it all!

You can check out their diverse collections HERE and their fabulous idea gallery HERE. We have been told that the gallery will not be going anywhere, so you can count on it for inspiration! I love the way they have organized it so you can search by specific stamp or stamp set and see all the samples featuring it!

Enjoy browsing... here's a few samples that caught my eye in the gallery today:

And for you 'Christmas in July' people (you know who you are LOL) here's an easy & elegant one:
and a fun one:

It's time... for a BLOG HOP & Challenge!

Welcome to the first Creative Accents BLOG HOP! We've put together a fab list of ladies for you to visit and get some inspiration from today!

This blog hop is a kick-off for our July CHALLENGE to create any card, scrapbook layout or paper based project inspired by this image (could be colors, layout, theme...):
Your project should include
- at least 3 colours
- a die cut or punched item
- primarily products available in our store (esp. as the focal point)

The challenge is open for submissions until noon on July 31 (check back for the link gadget if I haven't added it to the end of this post yet) and one random winner will be selected to win this prize on August 3!
Now that you've seen the challenge, let's get started on the BLOG HOP! We're kicking things off with two projects here, cuz both Mom & I had to play along! Here's a double page layout that Mom (Julie) created! She took her inspiration from the colours, layout AND the theme and made this rockin' layout with some pictures I took of my Dad playing his guitar in church one Sunday.
She had fun digging through our embellishment jars for goodies to add & finished it off with a quote cut from... wait for it... the ROCKSTAR font by QuicKutz. Is that perfect, or what?

Next up is my (Tara's) project! I was inspired by the colours and the theme and jumped at the chance to ink up one of my new stamps, "So Jazzed" by Mo Manning (& Stamping Bella). I also finally got to use the papers & ribbon I *love* from the 'About a Girl' collection by Fancy Pants. I coloured her up with Copics (and her little dog, too... love that it's singing along!)

My card is a 5.5" Easel Card- here's what it looks like standing:
Here's a better look at the front of my card (isn't that ribbon yummy? I had to put some of it in both of the prize packages!):
... and here's the inside! I made the sentiment a pocket to hold a tag (for writing a personalized note) and a gift card... for iTunes, of course! The sentiment is another by Stamping Bella- it's a fave Dr. Seuss quote of mine, so I was thrilled to get it in rubbah!
Next up in the BLOG HOP is a lady I am happy to introduce to you as the newest member of our Seriously Creative Design Team, CARLA! Carla is one of our most enthusiastic customers and it's been so cool watching her abilities grow as she creates beautiful cards! Carla has big plans for card making over the next bit while she's on holidays, so you'll definitely want to be frequenting her blog to see what she's been up to! BUT Before you go see her creation, I've got a couple more things to add...

Because we LOVE feedback (and I'm not afraid to say I'd love to see some more followers on this here blog... I know it's a "store" blog, but to me it's very personal!) we're offering a reward to one lucky person who comments on one of the blogs along the hop... you'll improve your chances by commenting on each blog along the way, because you never know which blog will be the one we randomly choose a winner from... (and if you're following the blogs, you'll probably hear about the winner sooner!). The winner will be announced on Friday!
Lastly, if you get lost along the way somehow... here's a list of the ladies participating in our blog hop:
1. Me (Tara) & Mom
2. Carla
3. Sarah
4. Teila
6. Cheri
7. Chris
8. Eulanda

Remember to show your love for all the inspiration by posting COMMENTS (and maybe even becoming a follower!) on each blog along the way! Have FUN & enjoy the inspiration!

Still here? Hurry & hop on over to see CARLA!

Summer Page Challenge- Win $50

We saw this challenge on another store's blog and LOVED the idea, so we're making a few changes and CHALLENGING YOU...

Summer is here, and with it a more relaxed schedule. Even though summer is very busy with activities, it is still important to make time to scrapbook. To help you, we are challenging you to join us in making a commitment to get one double page layout per week of summer done.

This means that every week this summer, you will sit down and create a layout. (If you know you are going away one week, then create 2 layouts the week before.) The layout doesn't have to be fancy, and if you preplan your pages, shouldn't take more than about an hour. (Of course if you want to do it fancier, that is great too).

What this means is that by the end of summer (we're giving you until the week after Labour Day), you will have at least 10 layouts created. (If you do more that is awesome! 10 is the minimum). Challenge one of your friends (or maybe your daughter) to join you, and maybe even get together every week to create the layout, making it a social event too.

Once you have completed your "Commitment Sheet" (available here in the store) and have 10 Creative Accents signatures on it, enter it to win a $50 gift certificate. There is a maximum of 3 weeks initialed in any one visit. (To allow for holidays, but to also ensure that you don't wait until the end of summer and stress out over getting 10 layouts done in one week!)

If you are one of our out of town friends, you can still participate, by emailing us a scan/photo of your layout each week to We will keep a commitment sheet on hand for you to initial off on, and we can email you a copy also for you to keep track with.

Please don't "cheat" yourself, and submit layouts you have previously done. Use this challenge to create some more layouts that will be cherished for many years to come and to get another story told. There is space on your commitment card to write down some ideas for layouts each week so you can preplan what supplies and photos you need.

FAQ (actually the answers) Yes, you can do two single page layouts instead of a double page layout. Yes you can use a kit, or class layout, or predone type layout - but it isn't finished until you have photos AND journaling on it! Yes, you can do 2 or 3 layouts in one week if you miss a week. Yes, you can create way more layouts once you get your groove going. Yes the layout can be simple or fancy - it just has to have photos and journaling. The answers are pretty much yes, as this is for YOU to help YOU get something done!

The first layout is due on Saturday, July 10... so get into your creative space and get started today!

Coming Soon...

I'm very excited about the first ever Creative Accents BLOG HOP coming up! The event will start HERE at noon and will take you to see fabulous projects by some amazingly creative ladies!

The HOP will kick off a new CHALLENGE for the month of July and there are PRIZES to be won... both by commenting on our blogs and by playing along in the challenge! If you're not already a "follower" of this blog, I'd love to have you join us so you're sure not to miss the fun!

See you on Tuesday with a BIG post and lots of inspiration for ya!

July SOTM: Big Guy Grilling

I'm back with our set of samples for the July SOTM! The 'Big Guy Grilling' is just perfect for guy birthdays this summer, as well as BBQ invitations and more! I love the personality the artist, Mo Manning, has given this guy- doesn't he look pleased with himself and his meat masterpiece? LOL. This stamp is by Stamping Bella and is available to our SOTM members 35% off! All the cards this month feature the "Father & Son" paper collection by Fancy Pants.
It can be really hard to get creative with guy cards, so I'm always on the lookout for embellishments that will work on masculine projects! I love the new 'small details' embellishments by Basic Grey for that reason! When I saw the crown detail on the kraft set, I knew I had to do a 'king of the grill' card :) I've coloured the image with Copics (& had fun adding texture to his shirt with a mini mister full of blending solution and a paper napkin!) and layered it on a kraft patterned paper by Basic Grey. My letters are the 'Chickadee' font by QuicKutz. I added a bit of thin twine.... just cuz I needed to embellish :) LOVE that thin twine, by the way- it's a great addition to projects and it's a steal at 10 cents a yard!
Mom whipped up this cute card by embossing our SOTM in black on kraft cardstock. The adorable BBQ is from last years QK "enjoy" gift set and it's perfect accented with a silver pen. A touch of thread adds texture.
Here's the card I gave you a peek at yesterday- it's a pretty simple card based on a sketch from the Paper Crafts "Go To Sketches" idea book. I paper pieced the Big Guy's shift with the plaid patterned paper, cut it at the 'buttons' and distressed it a bit with my finger nail :) I added a few highlights with my Copics before adhering it over the image I had already coloured. This image was my first try using the dotted background look I've been seeing all over the place lately. It was a fun way to finish him off and add interest to a mostly 'flat' card! My hot dog is another fun shape from the QK 'enjoy' gift set & the sentiment is by Art Impressions.
This card was kinda a join effort between mom & I. We told my dad it's his birthday card (he turns 55 this month) but we're hanging it on the wall. We'll probably make him another, but we're covered if it doesn't happen, right? The Big Guy has a paper pieced shirt again and it's pretty self explanatory beyond that! I used a Tim Holtz embossing folder on the patterned paper and added this funky mesh ribbon we got in. Mom cut out the '55' and stitched it to the sentiment for a unique touch! This card is very loosely based on an old Mojo Monday sketch I had in my inspiration binder :) Love that 'hot diggity dog' sentiment by Amuse!
Hope these cards inspire you to find ways to add texture and interest to 'guy' cards- there's a whole series of 'Big Guy' images in the store (well, there was... I'm not positive how many are left!) as well as a bunch of other fab ones by Mo Manning!

Have a creative day!

I'm thrilled to introduce you to Big Guy Grilling, our July SOTM!

The big guy is a Mo Manning design by Stamping Bella. I'll be back soon (hopefully later today!) with more samples...
