Quick Konnichiwa Cards

We've just started a new year of Basic Grey's Page of the Month (POTM) classes and our March class features the cheery Konnichiwa collection!  As always, we've got some bonus cards to share that we created using some of the leftovers from the kit!

I won't share many details with you, these cards are pretty simple.... but I hope you enjoy them!
This first card feature some of the felt borders that were in the cut, including the orange flowers which we cut apart.
This card features a leftover stitched fabric flower and a nice big sticker as the focal point.  This card is 3x6.
Another simple card... which I forgot to re-photograph after I added Liquid Pearls to the center of each flower.  Oh well!

We have a few extra kits from POTM available for purchase for $30, but if you sign up for a full year of POTM you can get each kit for just $27!  We meet the third week of the month on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (both nights are full) and Saturday at 11am (there's room for more to join us!).

Visit our Facebook Page for a peek at this week's Coffee & a Card project, which also features Konnichiwa papers :)  We'd love to have you drop in & join us on Thursday between 11am-5pm.  It's just $2 and all you need to bring is adhesive!

Feel the love for Vagabond & Ranger!

I'm posting for a couple reasons today... first up, I've got some Vagabond lovin' to share! Sizzix is hosting a "Where in the World is Your Vagabond" promo right now... you just have to post a photo of your Vagabond 'on location' somewhere- mine is in the Creative Studio, where it usually remains, quite content to meet our die cutting needs :)  Sizzix is offering a set of their new Gauge Keys and new limited edition Vagabond travel stickers for everyone who enters, while quantities last!  Yay!

The second thing I wanted to share today... I finally finished a project I've been wanting to do for ages!  I've made new header boards for our Distress Ink Displays, since our old ones have been around since Distress Ink first came out... too long!  It's so great to see a fresh display of the colour and has made me fall in love with many of these shades once again :)
And lastly today, my exciting news... I got an email from Tim Holtz yesterday that started with "Congratulations!" :)  I've been accepted to the April session of Ranger University and I can't wait!  I'll be going to New Jersey next month, and when I return I'll be a Certified Ranger Educator!  I would love to teach in cities and towns across BC!
Lotsa love & excitement is flowing today... Thanks for taking the time to read about it :)

Cotton Tail Cards

I created these sweet cards for a recent class featuring the Cottontail collection by We R Memory Keepers. We made a double page layout and these two cards. It's so easy to put together a cute card when you've got paper like this, already glittered and ready to go!
I don't have a lot to say about this first card, except that I used the tear strips from the bottom of the paper for the border detail on the card, added some bakers twine and a die cut butterfly with a few pearls.
While it's super quick and easy, I thought this second card was pretty clever ;)  It's a gate fold card, with the chick on the left side and the sentiment panel on the right side of the card.  They sort of interlock when the card is closed.

Here's the actual sheet of paper we used for the images on these cards:

As you can see, there are a ton of elements to work with here!  We used several on our layout and still have a few left over for more cards :)

12 Tags of 2012: March

We had a fabulous group of ladies join us here in the Creative Studio for a 12 Tags Drop In on Saturday, March 10, to work on the March tag by Tim Holtz. We didn't set this up as a class (since all the details are on Tim's blog), but rather a chance to come and play together with the month's techniques! I had the stamp & butterfly dies that Tim used, and we had a couple different wood grain stamps to create with... a good time was had by all and we're already looking forward to next month (we'll meet again in the Creative Studio April 14!)

This was my fave of the tags I created:
and here's a little collage of the 2 tags I made.  I used different papers from the same paper collection (BoBunny's Ambrosia) and got completely different looks... love that!
Mom played along as well, and these are the gorgeous tags she created!  I really love how the black mosaic turned out, so striking!
I wish I'd thought to take a photo of everyone with their tags in the Studio... we really did have a great time getting inky together!   I'm already looking forward to the April tag (and maybe the catch up tag for January...?).  Can't wait to see what Tim will have us creating next!

March Challenge- Technique Canvas

I had so much fun putting together my project for our March Challenge! We got in some great new products from Faber Castel and I was itching to play with them, as well as my new Distress Markers... so I pulled it all out and had some fun to create a collage of techniques on a 6x6 canvas:
Each square of my grid is just 1.5 inches.  Here's a few close ups:

Here's another look... along with the basic techniques/materials I used for each square:
  1. Cardstock painted with Gesso, covered in Gelatos, mixed with water & scraped with a plastic knife for texture.  The flower is resist canvas from Prima, also coloured with Gelatos.
  2. Stamped with Versamark Ink, coloured with Faber Castel Pastel Chalk Pencils, text stamped with a Stampers big marker, doodled a bit with another pen and sprayed it all with Goosebumps.
  3. Stamp inked with Stampers Big Markers (2 tone), inked with Distress Ink, the a second stamp was inked with Stampers Big Marker and stamped on top.  Silk ribbon tied around.
  4. Paper covered with Tissue Tape, Doodled on with Faber Castel pens & coloured with Gelatos.  I sealed it with Matte multi-medium by Ranger.
  5. Sprayed with Moon Shadow Mist by Lindy's Stamp Gang then Embossed (new Spellbinders M-Bossabilities)
  6. White paper coloured with Gelatos, then stamped with an image inked up with Stampers Big Markers, embellished with another Canvas Resist flower coloured with Gelatos.  The brad is from Graphic 45, coloured with Alcohol Ink to match.
  7. A square of burlap taped to cardstock, coloured with Gelatos, blended with water.  Finished with a pretty embellishment from Prima.
  8. Sookwang tape covered with Transparent Glitter Ritz, Peel Off sticker over that and coloured with Copics.  I took a brown Sharpie to the sticker to tone down the silver & make it look more rustic to suit this project (nothing else would stick to the Peel Off!)
  9. Distress Markers directly on a rubber stamp, blended with water after stamping.  Brown Distress Ink over the paper and water splattered on the background.
Yep, it was all kinds of fun!  My canvas base was painted with Claudine Helmuth Studio paints, a combo of black & brown just lightly mixed on my craft mat. Hope you like it!

Wishing You...

Here's the card we featured this week for Coffee & a Card!  It was inspired by a couple different cards I came across in Pinterest... tweaked to fit the materials we wanted to use :)

Mom put these cuties together- each features a QuicKutz die cut from white cardstock (we used the negative space and pierced around the edge with our Sew Easy piercing tool), new BoBunny Vintage Dot paper cut with the new nesting lace doilies (also by QuicKutz/Lifestyle Crafts) a bit of twine and a sentiment.  We did some mixing and matching with the sentiment, cut a clear stamp apart which had 'wishing you' as part of it and then added another word stamped in green.  A little bling finished it off :)  Cute & Quick- another 5 minute card, gotta love it!

Rainbows!

Just a quick post to share with you the card we made at last week's Coffee & a Card drop in!

Our card base is cut from the Tim Holtz Sizzix "Vintage Cabinet" die, the white layer is the Movers & Shapers insert by the same name (it nests inside the other die for storage!).  We cut the white from glossy cardstock and created a rainbow by dropping Ranger Alcohol Ink in a row on our felt applicator tool and swiping it across the card.  Once that dried (it doesn't take long!) we stamped our sentiment (Tim Holtz or Stampabilities) with Ranger Archival Black ink.  The pot of gold was cut on my Silhouette and we finished it off with some Distress Stickles on the gold.  This was literally a 5 minute card, since the cutting was already done!

Coffee & a Card is usually every other Thursday, but we've done 2 in a row now so we can switch up the weeks it falls on... the next drop in will be March 29!

New York Canvas

Several years ago, I went to New York City with my friend, Becky and my sister, Joy. When Tim Holtz released his District Market line, which includes printed burlap panels like this 'subway print' design, I knew it would end up being a gift for Becky one day! Her birthday is coming up this week and I finally took some time to create this for her:
Sorry about the lousy photo... just snapped a pic on my phone before giving it to her this weekend.  Here's a close up!
I've used the skyline die from QuicKutz, new Vintage Double Dot paper by BoBunny, Tim Holtz butterfly M&S dies & film strip tape and some assorted embellishments from my stash, as well as Vintage Gold Perfect Pearls Mist.  I made a card with some of the bits left over from the project, including the outer cut from the canvas butterfly dies!
Stamps are by Hero Arts.

I'm really pleased with how the canvas panel turned out... I think I'll be creating a similar one for myself!

Quick Gluber Card

Gotta love using Glubers from Cosmo Cricket (and the new XL & XXL Glue Dots, too!).  We made this card for our last Coffee & a Card project- a fun ruffled ribbon flower on a Gluber, simple stamping and some die cuts makes for a sweet little card!  I love how making a flower gave new life to this striped ribbon!

stamp: Hero Arts
dies: Tim Holtz Sizzix
paper: Basic Grey
Gluber: Cosmo Cricket

Join us this Thursday, March 15 for another Coffee & a Card for just $2!  Drop in anytime between 11am-5pm!

SMASH* book photos (take 1)

I was a little slower than some to get started on the SMASH* trend, but I gotta say it's fun! While it won't replace my scrapbook or card making, it's a fun creative outlet and it's perfect for all those bits I tend to keep as mementos... tickets, hotel room coasters, menus...  Here's some pages I put together with some of those 'bits' from our trip in January to attend CHA!
This page features a little accordion book I made with some of the extra photos (all of these were taken with my iPhone... so not so great for the scrapbook, but perfect to SMASH* with!).  I used Tissue Tape to adhere them all together & folded them accordion style, as you see here:

I'd love to see what you've been SMASH*ing! Yes- SMASH* products are available in the store... we're pretty low on stock right now, but honestly, you can put almost anything into these books :) Have fun and use up your stash while you SMASH* (I pulled out a pile of old Basic Grey alpha stickers for these pages!)

p.s. There's a fun SMASH* blog hop going on that I learned about on the SMASH*aholics Facebook group I'm a part of!  The blog hop starts HERE and there's some adorable SMASH* themed digi stamps to be won!

New March Challenge!

It's a new month, which means it's time for a new Challenge over at our Seriously Creative Challenge Blog!  The challenge is photo inspiration, based on the above photo... I can't wait to see how everyone interprets it!  You can see several great samples by our Design Team (including our new Guest Design Team Member, Dorothy!) on the Challenge Blog!

Mom (Julie) was inspired by both the colour green and the grid pattern in the image...
Mom used brand new Plumeria papers by Basic Grey... aren't they lovely?  She scrap-lifted another layout (in an old Basic Grey Catalog) because she loved the unique stitching details around the grid of papers!  The layout itself is pretty simple, but she's dressed it up with some Prima flowers (several sprayed with Moon Shadow Mists) and some Tim Holtz dies (label and flourish).  The title features a new set of American Craft's Thickers that will be coming to the store soon!

We love how this layout turned out... you can watch for a class inspired by it coming soon :)

March 2012 SOTM

Introducing our March 2012 Stamp of the Month...Desert Critters Gang by Lindy's Stamp Gang!  This whimsical stamp set has 11 different stamps, including fabulous witty sentiments to match these unique images!  Not only are there great images and sentiments on this set, you're going to love the price!  These stamps were such a great value that we've added EZ mount to each SOTM set and included it in the price of just $12 per set (and that's before the SOTM 35% discount!).

We hope you like what you've done with the stamps this month. Our Seriously Creative Design Team member, Janet, helped me with samples for the board this month.  We've used papers from the "Follow Your Heart" collection by My Mind's Eye as our palette for the board.

Here's two cards Janet made (you can see more details on her blog):
Isn't this frog 'toadally awesome'?  ;)
... and this armadillo!?  He looks awesome with a crackle finish!

I had fun using this great honeycomb patterned paper together with the turtle.  My new fave thing to do is spraying Goosebumps by Tsukineko over an image coloured with Copics... it looks super cool in person, perfect for reptiles and such :)  Here's a close up that hopefully shows the texture.  You can also see the shimmer in the background of the card from using one of my new Moon Shadow Mists, also from Lindy's Stamp Gang.  These fit right in with my addiction to kraft cardstock ;)
Lastly, the worst photo of the lot... but I do love this iguana stamp!  I used the same technique as above, spraying him with Goosebumps.  One thing about using a flash, it really picked up the shimmer from the Moon Shadow Mist I sprayed in the background here!
Here's a better shot of the card... but I think I'll leave that first one there since the shimmer shows so nicely :)

Thanks for reading!  Which of these critters is your favourite?  I'd love to know!
