Black Poppies

Happy Monday! I'm here with a quick post to share with you a simple, yet striking card featuring Perfect Pearls! Mom created this card by stamping with Versamark (or Perfect Medium) ink on black cardstock (we love Bazzil's Swiss Dot texture!) and brushing Perfect Pearls over it- in this case, shades of pink & green.  A large brush is used to remove excess powder and then a very light mist of water sets the pigments.
The effect is so pretty, and so hard to photograph... but here's another angle so you can see the shine a bit more!  Check out the ribbon she added... it's amazing how perfectly it matches, with green & pink interwoven together!
Perfect Pearls are really amazing on black cardstock!  If you missed my Technique Tag class featuring them and want to learn more, I've got something spooky in store for Coffee & a Card this Thursday featuring them!  Hope to see you in the store then, if not sooner :)

Cards for Kids

We had another 'card buffet' set up at our Autumn Crop, this time with a focus on making cards for kids. These are cards that were made to be delivered to the nurses at Children's Hospital, as we've learned the awesome nurses there like to give cards and gifts to their patients.

If you have some kid appropriate cards you'd like to donate with us, please drop them off at the store by next Saturday, Oct. 27. We are also doing a GIFT DRIVE and accepting donations of small gifts suitable for TEENS. All of these items will be used to brighten the day of kids & teens going through some tough times at Children's Hospital.

TODAY- Saturday, Oct. 20 is also the LAST DAY to purchase tickets for the draw baskets we have in the store!  The winners will be drawn after closing!  There are some really great prizes, as you can see below:
Tickets are available for just $1 each and the draw will take place tonight!  There are 9 different prizes, including items for a tea lover, sports fan, camera buff, happy stamper & anyone tickled pink :)  We look forward to sending a generous donation to BC Crop for Kids/ BC Children's Hospital Foundation!

Thanks once again to the following businesses & individuals who donated in various ways to this cause- we so appreciate their generosity!  Special thanks to Tanya for organizing the draw & bake sale for us!  We appreciate all your efforts :)

  • High Hopes Stamps
  • Tickled Pink Beauty Bar

12 Tags of 2012 {October}

{Scroll down to my previous post for a chance to win some Basic Grey BLOG CANDY!}

Yesterday was our October 12 Tags Drop In at the store and my group of 'regulars' was there to play with me after we did a fun Technique Tag class featuring Perfect Pearls!  Tim Holtz made a fabulous Halloween themed tag for October and shows a great technique for colouring his new Rock Candy Distress Dry Stickles- so much fun!  I decided to go with an Autumn theme for my tag this month- creating a background with Citrus, Stream & Espresso Paint Dabbers using Tim's technique.  I used my fave stamp from Tim's Mixed Media stamp set and the Tattered Leaves Bigz die for my glittery objects!  I finished it off with some of the new alpha tiles and some chit chat words, as well as lock & key embellishments from my stash.  (Bonus- this tag fits right in with our October photo inspiration challenge!  Check it out!)
I made a smaller (#5) tag as well that more closely followed the colours & concept from Tim's Halloween tag. I don't own much Halloween stuff, personally, but I borrowed a cobweb stamp, the skull & cross bones is from a set of pre-cut grungeboard, the ticket stamp from Tim's ticket stamp set and of course the chit chat stickers from the new seasonal chit chat set! I used the alpha parts to add the word 'boo' to my tag.  Thanks to Tim for the fabulous inspiration again this month!

Sunny Soleil Cards {& blog candy}

It's pretty gloomy and rainy here today... a perfect day to share some sunny cards with you and hopefully brighten your day :)

These cards were made using Basic Grey's Soleil collection- it's an eclectic set of papers that was really fun to create with!  The majority of products used here were leftovers from our POTM class kit papers, stickers and I really enjoyed playing with the vellum tape and fabric flowers!  In fact... I think I'll give some away!  Check out the details at the bottom of this post :)  But first, some cards!

Love the yellow Chevron paper- it's such a cheery colour!  I've paired it with some stickers, vellum tape, a flower and a fab sentiment by Lawn Fawn Stamps!
This next one features the bonus digital element that is exclusive for POTM members- isn't it a funky car?  I've layered stickers & vellum tape around it, over a kraft card base and a piece of backing from the vellum tape package:
Love those fabric flowers...
Here's a shot of the floral card together with another that was inspired by my first card with the yellow Chevron- this one was featured at one of our Coffee & a Card drop ins with some stamping, wooden shapes and washi tape added to the mix.
Wanna win some Soleil goodness?  All I ask is that you are a follower of our blog and you can add your name to the linky gadget below!  (no blog needed to enter!) You can get an extra entry by sharing about this giveaway on your own blog, facebook or twitter account!  Simply add your name again with a (b), (f), or (t) after it to let us know you did so!  One lucky person will win a Soleil 6x6 pad, fabric flowers & vellum tape.  Open to everyone, but international entries (outside of Canada & USA) may be asked to split the postage costs with me :)

New Challenge!

Wow- sorry things have been so quiet on the blog, we had our Autumn Masquerade Crop last weekend and the prep work always consumes me coming up to the weekend!  We had a small group of ladies this time, but it was still a lot of fun for everyone and we supported a great cause as a satellite event for BC Crop for Kids (funds raised will go to BC Children's Hospital Foundation).  We still have tickets available in the store for some great draws- stop by and check it out!  We'll be making the draw October 20!

This month over at our Seriously Creative Challenge blog, we've got a photo inspiration challenge for you to play along with! Here's what I created (so far!) for it...
I had several ideas in my head for this one, but decided to go for something simple, so I looked through my 6x6 pads to find one with a range of colours similar to the photo inspiration.  Once I picked my paper (Doodle Deux by Prima) I dug through my flower jars to find some that matched!  I added a few buttons & other embellishments and finished it off with a die cut butterfly and sentiment (and old fave from QuicKutz that I pull out regularly for thank you cards!) with a chit chat sticker by Tim Holtz.  My card is built on a 5x7 kraft card base.

Here's the photo it was inspired by:
Hope you'll join us over at the Challenge blog

October SOTM

It's the start of a new month, which means we get to share a brand new Stamp of the Month with you today!  We decided to try something completely different this month- a super versatile Texture Tread by Ranger!  At a glance, these look like an ordinary sheet of unmounted black rubber.  Upon a closer look, you'll mirror images of the same design, both positive and negative facing each other.  You can use Texture Treads like an unmounted rubber stamp- ink them up and stamp beautiful background images, as Roxy did on her samples:

Each of Roxy's cards features a different half of the stamp, embossed and used as a resist.

The really cool thing about Texture Treads is how they work with UTEE- ultra thick embossing powder.  The timing of this SOTM is really perfect, as Ranger just posted an article about UTEE on their website today!

Here's the cards I created using the Scattered Leaves Texture Tread:
 For this card, I made a copper UTEE disc on the negative side of the texture tread.  I actually used a jar rim and poured UTEE that I had added copper embossing powder to into the rim, then let it cool:
I used a sponge to apply Liquid Pearls to the raised leaves for some added dimension.  My stamped sentiment was embossed using the same colour of embossing powder I added to the UTEE:
Once I was done with my Copper Utee, I added some black into the melting pot to create this next piece:
 I set a Memory Frame onto the negative side of the texture tread and poured black UTEE from my Melting Pot into the frame.  Once it cooled, I lifted it off the texture tread and sponged Perfect Pearls onto the raised leaves, next I brushed some Distress Stickles over the entire charm.  The middle layer on my card features the positive side of the texture tread stamped in black Archival Ink on Kraft cardstock, then misted with the same Copper mist I used on the flower.
All the cards on our sample board this month feature the new Apple Cider collection by BoBunny- they always release the most gorgeous autumn paper lines!

If you are a member of our SOTM program, you'll save 35% on this month's Texture Tread stamp, as well as 20% off any other in stock Texture Treads.  Because we don't have very many in stock, you can also save 20% on Ranger stencils & Liquid Pearls when you pick up your stamp before October 15!
